Description
Theatre show: Parks Canada's "Through Ice and Time" is an epic journey through the pristine Columbia Icefield of Jasper National Park. The story is experienced through the memory of an old man, returning to the area he discovered as a young boy and later explored as a mountaineer. This short story is told entirely through stunning visuals. Allow 25 minutes for viewing.
Photo exhibition: "The Wonder Road": 75 Years of exploring the Icefields Parkway
This exhibit of black and white photographs tells the story of the Icefields Parkway. Candid and beautiful images capture the essence of early travel through the Canadian Rockies. From the time of early outfitters to the depression era road building of the 1930s; images of early car touring through the beautiful scenery and Hollywood connections add a touch of glamour while the area's use for mountain military training reflected a more sombre reality. Post WWII saw growth in tourism, more services for visitors and finally, keeping the road open through winter.
While the images focus on a brief period of human history in the area, visitors to the exhibit will also go away with sense of just how much glaciers have receded in the past century.
The Dream of Canada: A poster series that highlights historical and natural features of Canada through the stories of select national parks and national historical sites will also be on display in the Glacier Gallery.
