Description
Distance: 3.5km to peak
Elevation Gain: 910m (3000ft)
Hiking time: 2-3 hrs to peak
Plan on leaving early in the day for the hike up Mount Hosmer and bring plenty of water. The sun can be relentless and there is no water along the trail. The first 3 km of this very steep trail offers splendid views of the area around Fernie and has stunning wildflowers. The trail ends in the saddle below Ghostrider Peak. Mountain goats can be seen along the ridges and huckleberries can be found. From here, most of the 1.5 km route to the summit of Ghostrider Peak is a relatively easy walk; however, near the summit it becomes steep with a sharp drop.
Driving Directions: Main Access: Commencing at the bridge over the Elk River at the north end of Fernie, proceed east along Hwy 3 for 5.2 km to Dicken Road. Turn left onto Dicken Road and proceed for 600 m. Turn right onto the Hartley Lake Road. Follow this rough, 2 wheel drive gravel road for 7 km to the parking area and well-marked trailhead.
