Description
McLeod Meadows Campground in Kootenay National Park occupies a quite wooded area on the banks of the Kootenay River with spectacular views of the Rocky Mountains.
Listen to the sound of the Kootenay River and watch for wildlife, including deer and elk. Enjoy a gentle hike to Dog Lake or a more strenuous one by booking a Burgess Shale Fossil Hike to Stanley Glacier, then take a short trip down the highway to the Village of Radium Hot Springs in the Columbia Valley for great dining and a soak in the hot springs.
The open grasslands of McLeod Meadows and the nearby river makes ideal habitat for wildlife viewing. In early summer, the orchids bloom in the nearby meadows once the snow has melted, allowing for a special treat. Sites are appropriate for tents and small to mid-sized RVs.
McLeod Meadows has 80 un-serviced 80 sites, available First-come, first-serve. It is open June to September.

Nice scenery but thousands of mosquitoes here. Never had so much before in all of Canada. Not the campgrounds fault, though. No mobile reception.

A, B and J loop are on first come, first serve basis. Choose a spot first, then do the registration at the fork of E/F/G and J/K loop, next to the theater. We had a very quiet night.

Absolute stunning campground! Probably the best we have been so far in Canada. Kootenay river is right next to the campground, you can walk over a suspension bridge and go into the river with absolute BEAUTIFUL surroundings. Sites are nice and spacious, equipped with a fireplace. Restrooms (flush toilets) and sinks to do dishes are near to all sites. Some mosquitoes are present but are not bad at all. Bring some repellent and you'll be fine. Quiet at night, at daytime you can hear a bit of the highway through the National Park.
