Description
Hiking trail located in Glacier National Park. The trailhead is located at the Illecillewaet Campground.
Length - 5.4 km (one way)
Hiking time - 3 hours
Seasonal bridges are removed for the winter beginning late September. Creek crossings may be necessary after this time.
The trail leads upwards at a moderate pace until it crosses Vaux Creek, it is then a steep climb towards the alpine. After many switchbacks, the trail comes to a steep snow slope. Snow crossings can be very dangerous. Exercise caution and consider bringing an ice axe on this trip if you are skilled in its use, or ending your hike at the snow slope if conditions are icy. The trail ends at a viewpoint overlooking the Illecillewaet Icefield.
